DataWind plans for releasing their new smartphone with lifetime internet for just Rs.2000 and they are planning to launch the device before Diwali. This device runs on Android Operating System and its display is 3.5 inch in size.
Datawind Executive Vice President Rupinder Singh said company deals with three mobile operators for lifetime internet service and the company is also releasing few more devices before Diwali and focus to double the sales by the end of this year. Company has sold out 40,000-50,000 devices that includes (currently available three smartphones and five tablets) in every month under its portfolio.
In 2011 company got an agreement to distribute one lakh units of company’s own Aakash tablets for students, at a rate of Rs.2500 each. However this project was not so success and the device has some technical issues too and the company decides to make better versions of tablet.The project was completed last year in the month of may. Minister of IT and Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a press conference, Aakash project need more and better specifications. Just month before election,a tender was opened for Aakash 4 by DG S&D and revealed as the company is the lowest bidder.
The best competitor in the initial-level smartphone with several companies releasing phones under Rs.3000,such as Spice revealed with FireFox Fire One Mi FX1 smartphone RS.2229 ,Intex arrived a Aqua 4X,3G Android smartphone Rs.2999, Jivi mobiles has just launched the JSP 20 claims at RS.1999 respectively.
