Karnataka Govt. launched India's first free Wifi service called Namma Wi-Fi in the State where people can utilize the power of Internet free of cost.
The new initiative is to target the youth and Bangalore is one the most popular IT hub in the state. This new service is being launched in 5 commercial hubs and the Govt. is planning to expand the same to new locations too. This brings a huge advantage for the poor students and IT employees who need Internet all the time. Even there are connectivity & speed issues, IT Dept. mentioned that they are looking into the issues and will fix them as soon as possible. And at the same time others mentioned that since its an open network the security is another problem.
User will get a data transfer speed of around 512kbps for 3 hours per day for usage upto 50 MB. So with this data and speed you can check mails, Social media updates and browsing over Internet.
Anyway a very good initiative by Karnataka Govt.
